Terms of use
The short version: Hellflash is a do-it-yourself tuning tool. You buy one licence per car, you flash your own car with it, and you take responsibility for what you change. Here is the longer version in plain English.
Who we are
Hellflash is a trading name of Lyrns Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 15106179) with its registered office at 52 Colebrook Way, London, N11 1SZ. You can reach us at support@hellflash.com.
Who these terms are for
These terms apply when you use hellflash.com, the Hellflash web app, the Hellflash phone apps or the Hellflash desktop tools, and when you buy a Hellflash licence. By using Hellflash you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use it.
- You must be at least 18.
- You must own the car you connect, or have the owner's permission to change it.
- You are buying as a consumer unless you tell us you are a business.
What you are buying
A Hellflash licence costs £300, paid once, for one car. It is locked to that car's VIN and covers both the engine and the gearbox tools: reading, building tunes, the ready-made stage maps and the flashing tools. Updates to the software are included at no extra cost for as long as we offer Hellflash.
- Reading your car, browsing the supported-car list and the learn pages are free.
- A licence covers one VIN. It can't be moved to another car.
- A licence is personal to you. Don't share your account or resell the licence.
- Hellflash is sold as it is described on this site at the time you buy. Features marked as arriving later are not promised by a date.
What you need to supply
Hellflash does not include hardware. To flash a car today you need an ENET cable or ENET Wi-Fi adapter, a Windows laptop, and a battery charger or maintainer connected to the car for the whole write. Flashing from the phone app arrives in an update. Check your car is on the supported-car list before you buy.
The risk is yours
Tuning changes how your car runs. Writing to an engine or gearbox computer carries a real risk of damage if it is interrupted, done with a flat battery, or done with a tune that doesn't suit the car. You do this at your own risk. We are not responsible for damage to your car, its electronics or its components caused by tuning it, by an interrupted write, or by how you drive it afterwards.
- Follow the on-screen checklist every time. Keep the charger on, don't start the engine during a write, and never unplug or walk away mid-write.
- Keep the stock backup Hellflash makes before the first write. Restoring to stock relies on it.
- Tuning may affect your manufacturer warranty, your insurance and your car's road-legal status, including emissions rules and roadworthiness tests. You are responsible for telling your insurer and for staying within the law where you drive.
- Features marked for off-road or track use only, such as removing the speed limiter or changing emissions-related monitoring, must not be used on public roads.
- A tune is not a replacement for keeping the car in good mechanical condition. More power puts more strain on the engine, gearbox, cooling and drivetrain.
Cancelling and refunds
You can cancel within 14 days of buying for a full refund, as long as you haven't yet activated the licence on a car. When you activate it you ask us to start providing the licence straight away, and you accept that you then lose the right to cancel. That is how UK law treats digital content that you start using.
- If Hellflash can't connect to or flash a car that we list as supported, and we can't fix it with you, we will refund you in full.
- We don't refund because a tune didn't feel the way you hoped, or because the car was later found to have a mechanical fault.
- Nothing here takes away rights you have under consumer law, including the right to digital content that works as described.
Using Hellflash fairly
- Don't use Hellflash on a car you don't own without the owner's permission, or on a vehicle used for hire or reward without telling the operator.
- Don't try to copy, resell, reverse engineer or redistribute Hellflash, its maps or its security material.
- Don't use Hellflash to break the law, to defeat emissions equipment on a road car, or to tamper with mileage or identity data.
- We may suspend a licence used in these ways. We will tell you why.
Our responsibility
We provide Hellflash with reasonable care and skill and we work to keep it accurate and safe. Beyond that, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for loss or damage that comes from tuning your car, from an interrupted or failed write, from using a feature off the public road, or from any loss of earnings, use or enjoyment. Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud, or for anything else the law doesn't let us limit.
Not affiliated
Hellflash is an independent tool. It is not made by, approved by or connected with BMW, MINI, Toyota, ZF, MHD, bootmod3 or xHP. Those names and marks belong to their owners and are used only to describe which cars and components Hellflash works with.
Changes to these terms
If these terms change, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Changes don't take away a licence you've already bought.
Law and contact
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and you can bring a claim in the courts there or in your home country's courts if you live elsewhere in the UK. Questions, problems or refund requests go to support@hellflash.com and a person will reply. Our privacy policy explains what we keep about you.
